Gugun & Blues Shelter

If you’re a fan of blues, most likely you will know exactly who is Gugun & Blues Shelter.
Formed in Jakarta, Indonesia, Gugun (guitar/vocal), Jon Armstrong (bass/vocal) yang biasa digantikan oleh Enti Widodo jika perform di Indonesia and Bowie (drums).
had played in various local and international music festivals such as Colne Great British R & B Festival, Leeds, Oxford, Rotherham, York and Belfast Big River Blues and Jazz Festival (Ireland), The Singapore Blues Festival, as part of the Singapore Arts Festival in June 2008 and some local pubs in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
They released 2 albums, Get the bug (2004) and Turn it on (2007) under Sinjitos Records, a local indie label. Gugun and The Blues Shelter also landed a track for Laskar Pelangi soundtrack called “Mengejar Harapan”.

Locally they played in Jazz Goes To Campus and most recently Jakarta International Jazz Festival featuring Abadi Soesman which left the crowds went off the roof.
So what’s in store for 2009? A three week tour of the UK pub scene and a gig at the Skagness Blues & Rock Festival on January 25 hopefully will open more eyes in the international and Indonesian music industry.
Proof that Indonesian musicians do have the ability to please the foreign ear and soul, that’s why Gugun and The Blues Shelter is our artist of the week.
